Guernsey Crew In Nutmeg
Description
The crew is the new kid on the block of British heritage jumpers. Coming in at a tender 100 years old. It’s origins are steep in sailing and workwear. The ‘crew’ references sailors and rowers extending into labourers. With the emergence of differing working classes colloquial terms like ‘white collar’ worker referenced the attire of shirts and ties on workers heading to offices in direct contrast to round-necked collarless workers in employment across shipyards, fishing communities and eventually infiltration the navy when they adopted knitwear into their uniforms.
Post WW2 the crew shape shifted into a new demographic in western culture epitomising preppy dressing.
Classically the crew neck is knitted separately to the body of the jumper and attached on later.
Our crew is knitted on our machines at our mill on Guernsey. It is hand finished, bar tacked with their ends sewn in by our expert team of artisans.
We use 100% British Wool from our mill in Yorkshire who have been producing wool from farm to yarn for over 100 years. The fleece is collected from our sheep, delivered to be dyed & spun within a 50 mile radius of each other.
The wool then makes its trip from the main land to our island - across the English Channel where it is knitted into the iconic British Woollens Crew.
